Hospital Visit
accompanied grandma to visit the orthopedic at nuh. you see when you become a med student, you become like the bao ka liao for anything medically related. medical reports, prescriptions, medical news, you'll be asked to take a look. so thinking i'll understand better, i'm sent to be the latin/medical translator for grandma. she had a femur head replacement done due to a fall in canada and now she's complaining of pain down her anterior part of the thigh. ya so we went in and saw this malay doctor, who didn't look like a doctor, cos his dressing looked so sloppy. i thought he was a plaster maker or something, until i saw his tag- honarary fellow. well.. this fellow definitely doesn't look honarable. he was doing everything so slowly!!!! it was as if he din know anything... writing a few lines on the report was so difficult. he totally didn't know what's going on. fortunately, a bald rotund doctor came in and started doing things more professionally. immediately, he could give an initial diagnosis of the problem. no surprise... since dr w wang is a consultant. good thing we had him!

she had to go get an xray done before returning to see him again. some usher came along and said can you ask your mother to go change into the gown. i was like, 'WHAT? do i look old or does my grandma look young?' i think it's the latter. my grandma's 74 but she dyed her hair black. so with good skin she looks just in her late fifties.
so out came a toothy radiographer to bring my grandman in. renjun's sis and bro-in-law are radiographers, and he mentioned that it was a damn slack job. i could see why! you just come out, grab a patient in, zap him with some radioactive rays, develop the film and the cycle repeats. it's so brainless!!! ya so we returned with the film and waited. and waited. and waited. and waited somemore. i think in the midst of waiting, i fell into deep sleep and woke up a few times. and did anyone tell us we had to wait til all the patients are seen before it's our turn? no.... we just waited for 3 hours like fools. they should have slotted us in so that no patient has to wait like a max duration of time. and we were to see the slow malay doc again.

he took a look at the xray... didn't know what to do! wonder what does honarary fellow mean? can i get one now? he had to ask dr wang. and dr wang explained all that was going on. my grandma mentioned that i was a med student. n he said good... we can have further discussion. ya so after bladity blahs and yakkity yaks, with the malay doc giving a few insignificant comments, there was nothing we could do unless the pain was too excruciating and dr wang would have to replace the lousy canadian model.

'waive the fee.' the malay doc was like huh? 'waive the fee, you know...' and dr wang rubbed his fingers (sign for money). the malay doc gave a blank look... dr wang repeated so many times that he was pissed off, just took the form and ticked off a box and asked him to sign. such a thick skulled dr. hahaha... ya so dr wang was so nice!!! he said... relatives of professionals don't have to pay professional fees. wow!!! thanks! and i'm just a med student not even a professional yet.

so yet another adventure in the medical field.

What a game!
Real Madrid vs Barcelona
4-2
loved to see the blinding run by carlos, outrunning the defender to cross for raul to slide the ball past the keeper!

norwich deserved its win against man u too! how can they win only 3 matches all season when they played this well?

as usual, any arsenal game is fun to watch. they won only by a slim margin of 1-0 vs boro cos boro packed the defence, which proved to be their downfall. having too many people in the box will only lead to more chances for deflection. as in this case, a deflection falls into the path of pires for him to fire home!!! love arsenal's flowing soccer!

so 3 games over the weekend. don't think i've watch so many soccer games in months! hope they will come to good use for tmr's soccer friendly.

sigh... my liverpool squandered its chance to go above everton by losing to man city. how low will l'pool go??? grrrr...
Firecrackers!
Went to malaysia for qingming today. had to wake up really early to reach the graveyard by 7am. as usual, i just stood by the side while the rest paid respects to my grandma and great grandma. no joss sticks for me..

well.. though i din really participate in the qingming, i did join in the firecracker lighting. my uncle sold firecrackers together with ba kwa during cny and he still had a lot of them left so he brought them along. and wow... it was fun! ok although i've never seen firecrackers live since we live in safe singapore, i wasn't too enthusiastic initially. didn't know if it was safe. heard of all the stories of ppl getting burnt and severly injured.

but dad took all the firecrackers, lined them up and kept lighted them one after another. wow.. even dad is having fun! never seen this side of him, moving round shooting the firecrackers into the sky like he's like reliving his childhood.

so i crept up apprehensively took the joss stick and tried lighting the wick. after many tries, 'boom!' the black rocket shot to the sky, reached its peak and ended its run with an even louder explosion. totally impressed! i'm actually getting first hand experience playing with firecrackers... occasionally, the rocket got stuck and exploded in the ground, giving off a shockwave that sent your skin rippling. scary... my bro almost killed someone too when his lighted rocket fell parallel to the ground. fortunately, it shot nobody but the explosion left a hole in my great grandma's grave!!!! so much for resting in peace. besides these mini black and red rockets, there was also the deafening long cny type red firecrackers hung from the tree.

wonder why everyone lights firecrackers during qingming? is there any significance? i don't know.. but i sure had fun playing with them!

Boeing Boeing
Great performance! I was highly entertained by the fast paced humorous play. it was a play about this man who lives a polygamous life, engaged to 3 beautiful air stewardess without each knowing the existence of the others. so as you would have guessed, the entire story revolves on how the man, bernard, keeps the fiancees from meeting one another. what i love most about the play was the different accents by ms SIA, ms JAL, ms CATHAY and the filipino maid. they were so authentic that they truly showed the cute manner a hong konger, a japanese, a singaporean and a filipino would speak english. jianhong and i liked the japanese and hong konger. but bridge could relate more to the singaporean cos it's so her!!! at the end of it, i'd say paying 30 bucks to be left in perpetual stitches was definitely worth it! highly recommended if u can even get tickets cos they're almost sold out!!!

so the rest of the time, just chit chatting with the 2. uninhibited crapping like in cambodia! ok la... maybe with some inhibition. ya anyway, i don't mind having another one soon. :) window shopping at raffles city was an eye opener. i've to say it's becoming my fav hangout place. wonder why i go orchard so often and totally neglected such a gem. thanks for the great time!

i got out of my room today!
went window shopping with cow.
the bad thing about window shopping is, i see so many nice things and i get infected by materialitis.
just wanna get all of them. but i won't. i can't. won't let myself succumb to the disease. i'll fight to the end.
well.. maybe i'll just succumb to the top man tie first? hahaha... shit. that must be the last n only manifesting symptom.
can't let the other symptoms emerge.

oh man... i'm piling on the calories! ate so much today, and all sinful food. went to eat my fav takopachi again! i could eat takopachi everyday and not get tired... hahaha.. went to relive sec n jc school day memories by eating the taka japanese fried egg noodles. gotta say it was terrible! definitely not worth the 3 bucks. just one bad experience and you'll just wanna swear off it. so never again to eat fried jap egg noodles. oh remember i used to eat okonomiyaki at the taka food court. jap cabbage pizza. loved it! sad it's no longer there. anyone knows where to get cheap okonomiyaki?

kerliang> well that's cos everyone's irritatingly humble. well if you don't believe how sure i am, you can find me in the library tmr morn :)

lynn>windsurfing? wait til i lose my blubber first la. so embarassing to surf topless with a permanent life buoy round your waist. u do solo strolls? i think i'm the only one who does that. u girls can't even have a meal or go to the toilet alone.. how do u do solo strolls?

manny>peter russell? sure.. just get your ipod or thumbdrive and plug it into my ibook. u'll def laugh your ass off! actually ryan seems the same height as seth? just that maybe marissa is a lil taller than him. oh summer is really short so seth looks taller. finished season 1 already! feel so lost now..

okie time for an hour and half of night jogging now... lose the buoy!

slept at four watching oc and i'm still not done.
oh man... their life is so exciting and complicated that it is as tempting as a rollercoaster ride. don't i wanna have a taste of their life? ya just be seth or ryan for a day or two. with cool parents (i think sandy's the coolest dad ever!), great wardrobe of clothes, huge mansion, sea view, a pool house, huge cars, hot friends and own room. yea... it can only be a dream. a wild one.

post-exam activities:
day 1
-pigging out at fratello's (staff club), had oxtail stew... wasn't the best... but any oxtail stew is better than no oxtail stew.
-having jasper, yauhong, renjun and jirong in my room watching the funny peter russell (he's hilarious! get the video from us and u'll know what i mean), the oc and tak giu video.
-rest of the night watching oc season 1 on my own

day 2
-solo stroll in orchard doing some self reflection
-borrowed books from orchard library
-ate lots of food which i haven't eaten in a while like my fav prawn takopachi! love the crunchy prawn and chewy inside
-idled my time away at starbucks, reading robin cook's seizure over a aromatic mug of latte and a fabulous bag of kettle chips
-decided to start studying this weekend cos vivas are next week!
-guess i'll be staying in my same room in pgp next sem with the allocation of my 3rd choice of student accommodation
-dunno if i got cheated or what... i got approached by this plump, limping, underdressed lady in outside lido claiming she has a diabetic mum and she has got no job. she needs money to buy porridge for her brother and mum. gave her 5 bucks but she requested for 8. so i just gave her 10. saw her getting money from 2 other guys later too. well i gave her money out of goodwill. whether she's a cheat or victim of circumstances, may God bless her.

day3
-no plans! but think i should stop being a social recluse and hang out with ppl... think i'll feel better this way
so before i start muggin this weekend... i'm free for any jioing, dating, eating, exercising on fri!

Are you Ready to Follow your Dreams?
HOw apt. Chanced upon an article 'the ridge- a nussu publication' talking about dreams. Here's an excerpt.

"I have a friend who wants to be a doctor. Intelligent and well-liked, mainly because of his friendly demeanour and amicable nature, this young man recently nailed an SAF scholarship to study Medicine in NUS. It looks like he is all set to achieve his goal. I asked him one day, why he wants to be a doctor? Was he inspired by the life-savers he has seen on television, or was he in awe of the revolutionary physicians that he read about in the papers? HIs answer took me by surprise: he actually wanted to be a professional tennis player, but his parents felt that the path he is on is the best one for him...."

Wow... Wonder who is that fellow colleague? Really would like to meet him to know how he copes with the stress and workload when his chosen path doesn't follow his dream. I can relate a little to him.

I finally remembered my dream! To be a travelling doctor. One who is able to see the world and goes around healing the sick. However, the path I've chosen can be justified by other less noble reasons. Well.. I need to consider the burden on my parents so I accepted the scholarship to ease one child off my poor dad's shoulders. So now.. it's three other children to support through uni. Next it's for the money.. leading my present life requires cash. Going out as frequent as I am doing now, hanging out with different friends certainly requires money. Guess my friends are all rich cos somehow they seem to be able to live the same or more lavish lifestyles than I do. Actually, the scholarship is no big deal cos there are many other more deserving people who declined it cos they would not want to sell their lives to the army. I see it as a way to survive for now.. and hopefully, through it I'll be able to live out my dream.

To see the world and heal the sick.

Sounds good eh? Haha... well just need to get it into my head so that it can motivate me to study harder. Study!
How Long More?
Wake me up when it's over.
Sometimes i wish there was more encouragement and concern than throwing me straight down to the brutal reality.

Dreams
Holding conversations with Y has always been thought provoking. Things which make you wanna pause, reflect and express your views.

"What is your Dream?"
"To try not to be a screwed up doctor.."
"That is not a Dream... that's a goal... a Dream is different."

What is a Dream?
The dictionary says,
1.A wild fancy or hope
2.Condition or achievement that is longed for; an aspiration

Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech on equality for blacks has spurred the civil rights movement in the United States. His people shared his views and through his charismatic speech, he inspired them to fight for their rights. Such that, now his dream can be almost said to be a reality. What powerful consequences someone's dream can have.

Dreams are things that you want in your life, what you truly love to do, your calling. Without dreams, your life would be a stand still, stagnant and dull. Dreams often push people beyond limits, as seen in mountaineer David Lim, who struggled to recover from a debilitating nervous disorder to resume mountain climbing as a partially disabled individual.

When you were young, have you ever been asked what is your dream? "I dream for world peace"; "I dream for a clean and green earth"; "I dream to be an astronaut!", are answers often heard from little young ones. Well.. mine was to be a pilot or a doctor.

So to be a doctor was a dream then and now it isn't? Just cos I'm in medical school now and it is soon to become reality so that is not considered a dream? Well... I guess to me it is no longer a dream cos it is not a wild fancy nor is it a powerful motivating factor in my life anymore. What is my dream then? To save countless people's lives? Or to have a comfortable happy family, with wonderful Mrs Diane Doctor, sweet Ms Daisy Doctor and sporty Master Dylan Doctor? I guess I'll have to come up with something to steer my life in the right direction.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?
Pursue your passion, Follow your dreams.

I miss you like the sky misses the birds
I miss you like a song without the words
And everyday away from you it hurts
Cuz I'm missing you like crazy
I miss you like the sun misses the day
I need you like the desert that needs the rain
And baby it's driving me insane
Cuz I'm missing you like crazy
I'm missing you like crazy

I'm dying! thought i can finish upper and lower limb in a day. but as of 12.18 am the next day, i'm still at upper limb. dunno what am i to do... if anyone has a way to remember stuff easily, anyway, anything, i'm willing to try! so worried about not being able to finish. trying to destress by blogging now.

i'm beginning to like church more. yesterday at youth fellowship, got to know a few more people and had a nice chat with them about selling my 12 years of my life to the army. however, my ailing memory is failing to allow me remember their names even after they've told me a dozen times. so far, i only remember sujun lao shi, jun neng, randy, david, ci en, yu en, trevor, velda and abigail. the rest... i'm still trying very hard!

today, cow's mum bought me another book! today is library Lord's day so the sermon was all about the benefits of reading. when i went with her to browse at the recommended books sold at the canteen, she purchased one of them on the spot and gave it to me! i was shocked once again! she has pulled this stunt on me twice already! but wow.. thanks aunty!
then as we sat in the canteen drinking our beverages, one lady came up and commented, "wah, this is your son ah?" she jokingly replied, "ya this is my half son." shocked me once again! luckily, i swallowed my coffee or i would have spitted out at the old lady in front of me. hahaha... oh man... enough surprises for today. if i'm cow's mum half son, then i'm cow's half brother which means i'm a half cow? i maybe born in yr of ox and am a taurus, but i definitely do not wanna be a half cow. hahaha... but then again, since aunty and uncle are so nice... i don't mind being their half son! hahahah...

hey everyone go watch russell peters videos online. he's an indian stand up comedian who cracks racist jokes about blacks (jamaicans),yellows (chinese), whites(canadians) and browns(himself). basically everyone la! i've one video of him. get from me if you want.
one of my favourite parts is how do you pronounce this african name? !xobile
it's *tock* bee lay. clicking your tongue on your hard palate. how cool is that? i'll call my son *click* han.

sel> ya ya... don't worry, i'm not disappointed. however, the other guys will be... *wink* have fun in naruwan! don't eat til you explode!

bang> eh... ok i'll change vocabulary now. no more asses for me. how about bless?

koey> ya david's songs are growing on me too! initially thought they weren't so good. i like catherine, ai wo hai shi ta, jiu shi ai ni and sweet hour of prayer. but there are crappy songs too like sula and lampa? what crappy names for fictitious characters! sounds a little vulgar too. don't really like ghost as well.

ok online tutorial for putting up songs on blogs.
*first you have to upload your song online. i use geocities. but you can use any other website that allows to put up files online. the only downside to geocities is there is limited bandwidth, so when too many people have gone to your blog others can't listen to the song for the rest of the day.
*after you've uploaded your song, click on it and copy the address.
*go to your template, insert this- EMBED src= "http://youraddresshere.mp3" width=25 height=25
autostart=true (enclose the above insert with <>)
*you can make it play over and over again by inserting loop=true after the autostart=true
*or hide the player by inserting hidden=true
so now you have your own music on your blog!
